Introducing ABBA

ABBA was a Swedish pop group formed in Stockholm in 1972, comprising Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. During ABBA's active years, Fältskog and Ulvaeus were a married couple, as were Lyngstad and Andersson.

 

ABBA Won the 1974 eurovision song Contest on 6 April 1974 with Waterloo.

In 1975 the band released "I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do" and "SOS ».

 

In March 1976,it released the compilation album Greatest Hits with the new single, "Fernando". The album Arrival represented a new level of accomplishment in both songwriting and studio work. It comprised the hits "Money, Money, Money", "Knowing Me, Knowing You » and "Dancing Queen".

 

In December 1977, ABBA released The Album that spawn more worldwide hits: "The Name of the Game" and "Take a Chance on Me".

 

The group's sixth studio album, Voulez-Vous, was released in April 1979. It included the hits "Chiquitita", "Does Your Mother Know", "Angeleyes", "Voulez-Vous" and « I Have a Dream". It donated the copyright of "Chiquitita" to the UNICEF.

 

In March 1980, ABBA did their last tour in Japan. In summer, the group released the single "The Winner Takes It All".

 

At the height of their popularity, both relationships were suffering strain which ultimately resulted in the collapse of the Ulvaeus-Fältskog marriage in 1979 and the Andersson-Lyngstad marriage in 1981.

 

After the band broke up in late 1982, Andersson and Ulvaeus achieved success writing music for the stage while Lyngstad and Fältskog pursued solo careers with mixed success. In 1999, Its music was adapted into the successful musical Mamma Mia! that toured worldwide.

 

ABBA became one of the most commercially successful acts in the history of pop music. The group has sold over 370 million records worldwide (…)
